This second installment of the SoGrizz Quilting Beginner’s Series will build on skills learned in part 1, and start to add some new techniques, such as Appliqué and curved seams.

🪡 Part 3: “Sew On The Line” – the Magic of Precise Patchwork: FPP

In this third installment of the SoGrizz Quilting Beginner’s Series, we’ll introduce the exciting technique of Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). Building on the sewing, cutting and pressing skills developed in Parts 1 and 2, you’ll learn how to create intricate patchwork designs with remarkable accuracy.

For the confident beginner / intermediate quilter:

This workshop is a 2.5 hour session that will guide you through the SoGrizz original pattern 'Mountain Valleys'.

The pattern is not a complicated one but will require some previous quilting experience. In the workshop we will go through the construction of each element of the blocks. You will have time to finish a number of blocks during the workshop, but the quilt will be finished at home.

For the intermediate / advanced quilter:

This workshop will guide you through the process of making an original SoGrizz Quilting pattern called 'Old Delft Blue Beauty'. This pattern is based on the well known New York Beauty block.
The main technique taught in this class is Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP).

It is a two day workshop, with 4-6 weeks between the two days to allow for the blocks to be completed at home.

Where to start?

Part 1 is designed specifically for beginner quilters. The workshop offers a gentle introduction to the essential elements of patchwork and quilting.

You could also choose to come for a 1 day class for a creative day out with a friend - see the link to "Introduction to Patchwork" below for more information.

Parts 2 and 3 are for those quilters who have either completed part 1, or who already have some experience, but who would like to learn the basics of some new techniques, such as appliqué and Foundation Paper Piecing. (These parts can be followed in any order).

As you move through the series, each workshop builds on the last—helping you develop new techniques and grow in confidence. By the end of each stage, you’ll feel more empowered to take the next step, explore your creativity, and put your newfound abilities into practice.

Finally, we also have workshops for the more confident beginners, intermediate or even advanced quilters. These workshops are based on original SoGrizz quilt designs.

This is a 4-5 hour workshop for a couple of friends looking for a creative activity!

This is a perfect introduction to patchwork, and will hopefully lead to a passion for quilting. This workshop is for anyone who has never done any patchwork or quilting, maybe never even used a sewing machine before.
