ADVANCED WORKSHOP
Foundation Paper Piecing Original Pattern
2 day workshop
Saturday 7 June & 5 July 2025
10:00- 16:00 (includes an hour lunch break)
Lessons in English/Dutch
185 euros
What will you make?
This workshop will guide you through the process of making an original SoGrizz Quilting pattern called 'Old Delft Blue Beauty'. This pattern is based on the well known New York Beauty block. As New York was once called New Amsterdam, I looked to the Netherlands for further inspiration and developed a pattern inspired by Delft Blue pottery.
What skills will you be learning/practicing?
The main technique used in this pattern that may need some guidance is the Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). All the 'Beauty Blocks' are made using FPP. Do not worry if you have never done any FPP before; we will go through the technique extensively together.
A few other elements of this pattern that may require assistance include: attaching sashing with cornerstones; piecing your quilt top on point; attaching corner and setting triangles.
What is provided and included in the price?
- The quilt pattern
- Use of sewing machine (although you are welcome to bring your own)
- Use of thread, scissors, rotary cutter, seam ripper, rulers, ¼ inch/walking foot, pins, markers, etc.
- Drinks, snacks and lunch
What is not included in the price?
- fabrics
- FPP paper & printing
(a list of supplies that must be purchased before the start of the workshop will be provided)
1st day:
- introduction to the pattern
- preparing the templates
- learning FPP technique and making a number of Beauty Blocks together
At home:
- before the second day of the course you will work independently at home to complete your blocks.
- I will remain available throughout the month to answer any questions you may have.
2nd day:
-When we meet for the second day a month later we will piece the quilt top: we will arrange sashing, cornerstones, blocks, and setting triangles on point. We will attach borders and start the quilting process if we have the time. It is assumed you know how to quilt and bind the quilt, and that you can complete this part at home. However, if you need assistance I am happy to help!
